A Moscow State Circus performance is like nothing you have ever seen before. Every production from the most famous circus in the world sets out to make the audience say “Wow”, and ‘Zhelaniy’, a two-hour extravaganza of acrobatic feats, is one of their most awe-inspiring productions to date.
Don’t Miss Moscow Circus First European Tour
For a very limited time, from Friday September 4 to Sunday September 13, the Moscow State Circus will amaze and entertain Dublin audiences at the RDS in Ballsbridge. This is the first European tour, which will be hosted in an ultra-modern, fully licensed and climate controlled big top.
The Flower with Seven Colours
‘Zhelaniy’, arguably their greatest show thus far, take its influences from the very old Russian folk tale of Cvetik-Semicvetik, which translates as “The Flower with Seven Colours”.
In this old tale, a girl named Zhenya goes out to buy some bagels. She gets distracted, and when her back is turned, a stray dog eats the bagels as she is carrying them. In tears, Zhenya runs off after the dog, and somehow finds herself in an enchanted garden, where she is given a flower with seven different-coloured petals. She is told that each of the petals on the flower represents a wish, and this flower will grant her seven wishes. So, each time she wants to make a wish, she must remove a petal and recite an incantation.
There are many different illustrated versions of this beloved story, but possibly one of the trippiest versions is by Benjamin Losin.
Losin’s version is the ideal premise on which to base a story told by the Moscow State Circus, which as always takes a familiar tale and makes it all their own. They interpret a story in their own unique way and add their own special brand of magic, ensuring the audience is spellbound and leaves the venue saying, “Wow”.
In their version, Wizard Wako and his assistant, Natalia Mezentceva, bring the audience on an unforgettable journey to a beautiful garden filled with mystery. In this garden, dreams come true and you will see people pulling off seemingly impossible gymnastic stunts.
The highly likeable, yet clumsy and silly guides bring us through this magical tale, granting wishes to Zhenya (played by the amazing Kushka Veslovskiy). All the while performers fill the stage, soaring through the air, performing back flips, juggling, tightrope walking and roller-skating.
Springboard Troupe, Tightrope Walker & More
This year’s show features the award winning Ruban 13 person springboard troupe; Stynka on the horizontal bouncing Russian bar; Veslovskiy roller-skating revolutions; ballerina Eliza Khachutrya on the high wire in the roof of the big top; Trio Atlas on the floating globes; Olga Rozhkovskaya, low tightrope walker and Tatiana Ozhiganova, pulling off daredevil aerial stunts.
This show features a huge cast of the most highly skilled performers in Russia. For many, this Dublin show is a milestone as it will be the first time they have performed in Ireland. Together, they bring magic and wonder to the stage in a fusion of the modern and the rustic, in a way you have never experienced before.
